Grok Bot vs ChatGPT: how Grok Bot compares with OpenAI dots and ChatGPT Work
Grok vs ChatGPT for agent work: Grok Bot runs named teammates on a persistent cloud computer, dots are always-on agents inside ChatGPT, and Work handles long deliverables. Sourced facts only.
For agent work, “Grok vs ChatGPT” is really a choice between three products: Grok Bot gives you named AI teammates that each own a job on a persistent cloud computer, OpenAI dots are always-on agents inside ChatGPT with their own cloud computer, and ChatGPT Work is ChatGPT’s mode for long, multi-step deliverables. All three can take a task, work through several steps without you, and hand back finished output. They differ in how you set them up, where you reach them, and how they’re paid for.
Everything below comes from each maker’s own pages, linked inline, plus the use cases in our catalogue. We don’t run benchmarks or publish star ratings. For the side-by-side fact tables, see Grok Bot vs ChatGPT and Grok Bot vs OpenAI dots.

How Grok Bot works
Cursor describes Grok Bot as AI teammates with names and jobs that run on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, filesystem and terminal, so work keeps going when your laptop is closed (Cursor docs). It also supports more than one teammate, so you can give each Bot its own role.
Cursor’s own use-case page frames every example as a job a Bot owns, with the tools to connect and where it stops. A few from our catalogue:
- Generate sales pipeline overnight: research the accounts in a CRM view, score them against your ideal customer profile and draft review-ready outreach.
- Run chief-of-staff briefs across tools: review Slack, email, calendar and planning docs since yesterday and return a source-linked digest.
- Run paid media analysis and recommendations: pull spend and performance by campaign and compare it with the monthly budget.
- Manage expenses from receipts and statements: build the weekly expense summary and match receipts against policy.
- Prep interviewers with a Slack candidate brief, from xAI’s recruiting guide.
All of them are on the Grok Bot brand page, and ready-to-copy prompts are in Grok prompts.
How OpenAI dots work
OpenAI calls dots always-on agents in ChatGPT, powered by GPT-6 Astra, each with its own cloud computer. You connect apps through plugins (OpenAI cites more than 4,000) and can reach a dot in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams (OpenAI). The pitch is a dot that learns your goals and standards, then keeps working as things change. OpenAI’s own examples show it:
- Turn customer feedback into tested fixes
- Update a sales proposal as requirements shift
- Revise a product launch as scope changes
- Update analysis with new evidence
- Automate content production from interviews
According to OpenAI’s help article, dots are rolling out to ChatGPT Pro users aged 18 and older in markets outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, and to Business Premium in eligible markets. Enterprise workspaces get them only when an admin turns them on. Browse everything on the OpenAI dots brand page.
How ChatGPT Work fits in
ChatGPT Work is the mode for longer multi-step work that ends in a finished deliverable: documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports and Sites (OpenAI). OpenAI’s help center says the earlier ChatGPT agent is no longer available and points users to Work (help center, checked October 28, 2026). That’s why we file older “ChatGPT agent” examples under Work. Most of those come from third-party write-ups, and each one links its source:
- Brief upcoming client meetings from calendar and news
- Build competitor decks and DCF models
- Summarize inbox threads and draft email replies
- Draft personalized sales outreach from prospect research
The full list is on the ChatGPT brand page.
Which one fits which job
Here’s how the published examples line up by job. It’s a map of documented use, not a verdict.
- A standing job that runs every day or week. Grok Bot’s examples are written this way (a sales pipeline overnight, a daily chief-of-staff digest, weekly expenses). Dots also cover recurring work, and a third-party test describes setting up a recurring job on a dot.
- Work that has to keep up as inputs change. That’s the core of OpenAI’s dots examples: proposals, launches and analyses that get revised when new information arrives.
- One big deliverable from a single brief. ChatGPT Work is built for this: a deck, a model, a report or a Site.
- Several roles at once. Grok Bot is designed around multiple named teammates; see multi-seat customer support ops on Grok Bot.
For sales work in particular, compare the playbooks on AI sales agent use cases. If the job is writing or fixing code, our sister site bestaicodetools.com covers coding agents in depth.
Other personal agents to compare
Grok Bot and dots aren’t the only personal agents with their own cloud computer. Meta’s Muse and Anthropic’s Claude Duet fit the same category; see Grok Bot vs Muse and Grok Bot vs Claude. For the wider field, our best AI agents list covers all 12 agents we catalogue.
How we sourced this
Product facts come from each maker’s official pages, fetched October 28 to 30, 2026, and use-case counts come from our catalogue as of November 3, 2026. Every use case links back to its source. The rules are on our methodology page.
